Feb-Mar 2018, Research by Éliane Roux and Tomoko Ota

Following the Ota's finding of the reference of a screen in Barberini's inventory record, ASRN researched the inventory records of Barberini Family members who might have been inherited the screen such as Maffeo(1631-1658), Cardinal Carlo(1630 - 1706), and Antonio(1608 - 1671). However, we found no further evidence of the screen that was referenced in the 1679 inventory record. There is a possibility that Francesco acquired the screen between 1649 and 1679.

In the 1649 inventory record of Francesco Barberini (BAV Computisteria, 156), many objects related to East Asia are included, which is not surprising because the family had a very close relationship with the Jesuit who lead the missionary work in Asia. Such objects contain "a round shape container in Indian style that has "Jesus" design with inlaid mother of pearl on its lid or a small Indian desk made of reed", which description matches one of the objects gifted to Gregorius XIII in 1585.
